What is RO antiscalant?
An RO antiscalant is a chemical dosed into reverse osmosis feed water to stop sparingly soluble salts — calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium and strontium sulfate — from scaling the membranes as water is concentrated. ZEELCHEM 9003 also disperses colloids and iron, typically at 2–6 mg/L.

RO antiscalant overview
ZEELCHEM™ 9003 extends run-time between cleanings and protects element life, lowering both operating and capital cost. It controls calcium carbonate, calcium sulfate, barium sulfate and strontium sulfate, tolerates iron and aluminium oxides and works over a wide pH range.
It is compatible with coagulants and with all leading thin-film composite membranes, and can be fed neat or diluted. It is suitable for producing potable water.
How RO antiscalant works
Antiscalant molecules adsorb on salt nuclei as they form in the concentrate stream, delaying crystal growth beyond the residence time in the membrane element, and their charge disperses colloids and iron so they don't foul the membrane surface.

Dosage and dosing point
Inject upstream of the static mixer or cartridge filter with a metering pump; 2–6 mg/L typical, maximum 10 mg/L for potable use. Dilute to no more than 10% with RO permeate or DM water.
Compatibility
Compatible with leading thin-film composite membranes and with coagulants used in pre-treatment. Do not dose upstream of a softener's brine line or mix with cationic polymers.

Handling, storage and safety
Formulated water-treatment blend: wear goggles and gloves while handling and dosing. Keep containers closed, upright and in shade at 5–40 °C. Do not mix concentrates of different chemicals — dose each through its own line. Refer to the MSDS supplied with the batch.
