What is PBTC?
PBTC (CAS 37971-36-1) is a low-phosphorus phosphonate with excellent chlorine tolerance. It controls calcium carbonate scale at high pH, hardness and temperature and stabilises zinc in corrosion programmes, making it the phosphonate of choice for high-cycle, chlorinated cooling towers. Dose 5–15 mg/L.

PBTC overview
PBTC combines phosphonic and carboxylic groups, giving outstanding scale inhibition at high temperature, high hardness and high pH, and better chlorine tolerance than HEDP or ATMP.
It is an excellent zinc salt stabiliser and is widely used in high-cycle cooling water, oilfield re-injection water and as a chelating agent in metal cleaning.

Handling, storage and safety
Acidic liquid: causes eye and skin irritation. Wear chemical goggles, nitrile or PVC gloves and an apron; keep an eyewash nearby. Store in the original closed HDPE carboy, in shade, at 5–40 °C, away from strong alkalis and oxidisers. Do not store in mild-steel or aluminium containers. Rinse spills with plenty of water.
